Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types. However, the report is marred by significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state that first-time visitors were 8,000 in 2000, whereas the graph shows a different figure, and your description of the trends is often confusing or contradictory (e.g., stating a 'significant declined' followed by 'gradually increases' when the data shows otherwise). While you attempt to provide an overview, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the confusion between the two categories prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully check the axes and data points before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear due to confusing referencing. For example, you use 'red color' and 'blue color' to refer to the categories, which is less professional than using the labels provided. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often misused or mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in contrast' and 'whereas' in ways that do not always logically connect the sentences. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'vesiters' instead of 'visitors'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'rising' and 'declined' and struggle with accurate collocations. The use of 'red dye' to describe a line on a graph is inappropriate for an academic report. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary that would allow for precise reporting of trends. To improve, focus on learning specific academic vocabulary for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', and 'a downward trend', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the categories provided in the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'first time visitors shows'), incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'has significantly fell'), and awkward phrasing that obscures meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas. While the meaning is generally discernible, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
