Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the main trends, identifying the upward movement of returning visitors and the fluctuations of first-time visitors. Key features are highlighted, such as the peak for returning visitors and the initial decline followed by growth for first-time visitors. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting; for instance, the claim that 'total visitors will be same in the year 2001' is not supported by the graph, and the final sentence is vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately interpreted and that the summary focuses strictly on the provided visual information without introducing external assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'At the beginning of the period', 'It then', and 'After this' are used to guide the reader through the data. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are repetitive. The final sentence is somewhat disconnected from the rest of the analysis, which impacts the overall progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence contributes directly to the comparison of the two categories would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends using terms like 'upward trend', 'declined', and 'increased'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'aproximately' and 'isalnd', and some awkward phrasing like 'get rise'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic verbs to describe changes. To improve, the student should incorporate more precise synonyms for movement, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'dipped', and pay closer attention to spelling and standard collocations to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('total visitors are increase') and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters or missing necessary commas. The use of 'where as' (should be 'whereas') and 'i.e,' indicates a need for more careful proofreading. To achieve a higher score, the student should focus on reducing these frequent errors and ensuring that complex structures are used with greater accuracy.
