Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is inconsistent and lacks clarity. While you identify the trends for both visitor types, the description of the data points is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that first-time visitors 'fells to four thousand' in 2002 and then 'increased to two thousand' is mathematically unclear. You have attempted to summarize the information, but the lack of precision in reporting the figures prevents a clear overview. To improve, ensure that you accurately interpret the data points and provide a more logical comparison between the two categories throughout the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'then' to link sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. For instance, the transition between the description of first-time visitors and returning visitors is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently,' 'in contrast,' or 'subsequently' would help create a more logical structure and better connect your observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'increased' and 'visitors.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'fells to' (should be 'fell to') and 'more three times' (should be 'three times as many'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the trends with precision. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' 'remained stable,' or 'a significant rise,' and ensure you use them in the correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('represent' instead of 'represented'), subject-verb agreement ('visitors is increased'), and awkward sentence structures. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of parentheses for dates. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct tense usage for past events, and refining your punctuation to improve the overall clarity and professionalism of your writing.
