Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data points to support your description. You covered both visitor categories across the specified timeframe. However, the response lacks a clear, professional structure. The introduction is informal, and the overview is embedded within the body paragraphs rather than being a distinct summary of the main features. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear overview of the overall trends (e.g., the general upward trajectory for both groups) immediately after the introduction. While you included specific data, the analysis could be more concise to avoid repetitive phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is coherent in its overall arrangement, but the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive. You rely heavily on commas to join independent clauses, which creates run-on sentences and makes the flow feel disjointed. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words or transition signals (e.g., 'subsequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile'). Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the body and the conclusion is abrupt. Improving your use of cohesive devices and varying your sentence structure will significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You frequently use repetitive phrases like 'number of' and 'visitors'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'peoples' (which should be 'people') and 'upside trend' (which is not standard academic terminology). To improve, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'downturn', or 'significant growth'. You should also focus on avoiding informal phrasing like 'lets discuss it' and 'due to some reasons', which are not appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. You consistently use commas where full stops are required, leading to run-on sentences. There are also errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'first time visitors follows') and pluralization (e.g., 'peoples'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on sentence boundaries and ensuring consistent verb tense usage—specifically using the past tense for data from 2000 to 2008—will help improve your accuracy.
