Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor types. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the overall trends and fails to highlight the most significant changes effectively. The data reporting is somewhat mechanical and contains inaccuracies, such as the claim that returning visitors 'gradually increased' while the data shows significant fluctuations. Furthermore, the comparison between the two groups is not always clear. To improve, ensure the overview synthesizes the data rather than just listing figures, and double-check the accuracy of the numbers extracted from the graph to ensure the summary is reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'while on the other hand' and 'but as the time goes on', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or sound unnatural. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two visitor categories. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow and readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There is frequent repetition of words like 'visitors', 'number', and 'first time'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'boosts' and 'in last', which do not fit the formal tone required for an academic report. There are also minor spelling errors, such as 'carly' instead of 'Caryl'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of synonyms and more precise reporting verbs (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'surpassed') to describe the data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the line graph illustrate', 'This graph have'), incorrect tense usage, and punctuation errors. The misuse of articles and prepositions is also noticeable. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent tense usage will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
