The line graph shows the number of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this graph the number of visitors visiting first time is decreasing from 8000 to 4000 from the year 2000 to 2002. After the year 2002 there is rapid increase in the number of visitor from 4000 to 12000 in next six years. On the other side the number of returning visitors are kept on increasing from the year 2000 till the end of year 2005. After that there is a slight decline in the number of returning visitors till the year 2008. As we can see there is almost a constant increase in number of returning visitors shows that people love to come back to the Caryl island. People love to spend their time on the Caryl island.People relish their previous time spent on this island and they love to come back here.By looking at the increasing number of new visitors after 2002 shows that the other people who went to Caryl island earlier suggested them this place and gave them a good review about the island which force them to visit caryl island.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the initial decline and subsequent rise in first-time visitors, and the trend for returning visitors. However, the response fails to provide an overview or summary of the data, which is a key requirement for Task 1. Furthermore, the final section of the response includes subjective speculation about why people visited the island ('people love to come back', 'gave them a good review'), which is not supported by the data and is irrelevant to a factual report. To improve, focus strictly on describing the trends shown in the graph without adding personal opinions or external assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of information. While there is a basic attempt to sequence the data, the transition between the factual description and the subjective commentary is abrupt. Cohesive devices are limited and somewhat repetitive (e.g., 'After the year 2002', 'After that'). The lack of a clear structure and the inclusion of irrelevant information hinder the overall flow. To improve, organize the report into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details, using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'kept on increasing' and 'people love to come back' are informal and repetitive. There is a lack of academic vocabulary to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable'). The word 'force' is used incorrectly in the context of why people visited the island. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology for describing data trends and avoid informal, conversational language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'number of returning visitors are kept') and article usage (e.g., 'visiting first time'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the lack of spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and attempt to use more complex sentence structures, such as subordinate clauses, to describe the data more fluently.
