Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying trends for both visitor categories. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. The data reporting is generally accurate, but the inclusion of the final sentence describing the line colors is unnecessary and should have been integrated into the introduction or omitted. The response would benefit from a more cohesive synthesis of the data rather than listing figures year by year, which makes the comparison less effective.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'On the other hand' and 'Whereas' are used, but the flow between sentences is often disjointed. The final sentence is disconnected from the rest of the report, and the referencing (e.g., 'it' referring to visitor numbers) is occasionally ambiguous. Improved use of linking words and better paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'rose steadily', 'generally decreased', and 'it were' are used repeatedly. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or precise collocations to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated' instead of 'some time rose and fall'). Some word choice errors, such as using 'proportion' when referring to raw numbers, indicate a lack of precision. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more descriptive verbs and nouns would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'returning visitors some time rose and fall', 'it were 6000'). There are also issues with pluralization ('first time visitor' instead of 'visitors') and tense consistency. While the student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, the errors are persistent and occasionally impede the clarity of the information provided. Greater attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading for agreement errors is necessary to reach a higher band.
