Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
You have identified the main trends for both visitor categories, which is a positive start. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary of the overall trends, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The data reporting is somewhat mechanical, listing figures year-by-year rather than grouping them into logical trends or making meaningful comparisons. For instance, you mention specific numbers like '12000' and '14000' repeatedly without synthesizing the information into a broader picture of the growth patterns. To improve, ensure you include an introductory overview that highlights the most significant changes across the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into two paragraphs, which helps readability. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of cohesive devices. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'In the year' or 'The number was'. There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently'). The referencing is also slightly unclear at times, such as when you refer to 'the number' without explicitly stating which category you are discussing in every instance. Using a wider range of cohesive devices would significantly improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is functional but limited. You tend to repeat basic words like 'number', 'increase', and 'visitors'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant surge'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice, such as 'positive outcome' to describe a numerical increase, which is not the most precise way to report data. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied verbs and nouns related to data analysis and trend description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'The returning visitors number were 2000' should be 'The number of returning visitors was 2000'. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'the number... keep increasing' instead of 'kept increasing'. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often grammatically flawed. The punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage for past data will help improve your accuracy.
