Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graphs illustrates information on the number of people who have visited Caryl Island first and those who return on that island after the first visit from 2000 to 2008.
Overall, it can be seen that the first time visitor's number declined between first two years and the visitors who were returning to island was declined after 2006.
At the beginning of the period the number of the tourists were only 8000 in 2000 but in 2002 the number was in its lowest there were only 4000 people who have visited the island. After 2002 the visitors number increases sharply, it reached 12000 in 2008.
The people who have returned to the island were 3000 in 2000 which increase every year but in 2006 we saw a declined in the returning visitors; there were about 15000 people who returned to island but after that there number decrease in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the first-time visitors lacks precision regarding the peak and the specific starting point. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated. While all parts of the task are addressed, the data reporting is occasionally inaccurate or lacks the necessary detail to fully support the trends described. To improve, ensure that all key data points are clearly stated and that the comparison between the two groups is more explicit throughout the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is a clear overall progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the description of the two visitor types could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disconnected due to a lack of varied linking words. Improving the range of cohesive devices would help the ideas flow more naturally and elevate the overall structure of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the main trends. There are some attempts at using specific terminology, such as 'declined' and 'increases sharply'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'returning to island was declined' and 'there number decrease'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied and accurate vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure correct preposition usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the first time visitor's number' and 'the visitors number increases'. Additionally, there are issues with tense consistency and sentence construction, such as 'there were about 15000 people who returned to island'. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the response.
