Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered both categories (first-time and returning visitors) and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the peak years for each group. However, the report could be improved by including more specific data points for the start and end of the period to provide a more comprehensive summary. While you mentioned the 2002 decline and the 2008 peak, some of the descriptions of the trends are slightly vague. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on each visitor type. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You used some cohesive devices, such as 'whereas', 'after 2002', and 'with an exception of', which help link your points. To reach a higher band, ensure that your transitions between sentences are more varied and less mechanical. For instance, the start of your paragraphs could be more fluidly connected to the previous information to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. You used terms like 'maiden visitors', 'recurring trips', and 'inaugural visitors' to avoid repetition, which is a positive feature. However, some word choices are slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'maiden visitors' (which is usually reserved for ships) and 'capped at' (which implies a limit rather than a recorded figure). Focusing on more precise collocations for data reporting will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that communication is never impeded. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'half in numbers as compared to' (which should be 'half the number compared to') and 'In year 2006' (which requires 'the'). While you have good control over basic structures, incorporating a wider variety of complex grammatical forms, such as passive voice or more sophisticated relative clauses, would enhance your range.
