Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends for both visitor categories, the overview is somewhat inaccurate; you state that returning visitors showed a 'downward trend' throughout, whereas the data shows a significant increase from 2000 to 2006 before a slight dip. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear comparison between the two groups. To improve, ensure you provide a more accurate overview that captures the overall trajectory of the data and expand your analysis to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Turning on the details' and 'Moving further'. The transition 'howbeit' is used incorrectly in this context. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the summary, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the brevity of the response limit the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used naturally will help raise this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'visited' and 'visitors' in close proximity. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the number of visitors was declined' (should be 'declined') and 'upsurged' (which is not standard in this context). The phrase 'reached at' is also grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on using a wider range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure that verbs are used in the correct voice and tense. Avoid non-standard word formations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with verb tense consistency and passive voice construction, such as 'the number of visitors was declined' and 'the visitors were decreased'. Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of active versus passive voice. Proofreading for punctuation and sentence boundaries is also essential.
