Student answer (Band 5.5)

The provided line graph illustrates how many visitor who visited Caryl Island whether they where first time or returning visitors from 2000 and 2008 with a 2-year interval.

Overall, the most striking feature is that the first time visitors stood above the returning ones till 2001 then the number of multitime visitors was significantly higher than the citizens who visited for the first time.

It is apparent that the citizens intrest in visiting Caryl Island has soard in recent years.the number of both first time and returning visitors sky rocketed later 2002 additionally the first time visitors number surged until 2008

The data clearly indicate that before 2001 individuals did not return to the Island after the first time. The number of people who visited the island for more than one time rose before falling in 2006. Yet, in 2002 increased rapidly.

It is observed that in 2008 the number of both visitors were fairly close to one another.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the crossover point and the general upward trends. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, stating that individuals did not return to the island before 2001 is not supported by the graph, which shows data points for returning visitors from 2000. Additionally, the description of the trends is occasionally confusing, such as the claim that numbers 'skyrocketed later 2002'. To improve, ensure that your summary accurately reflects the data points provided and clearly distinguishes between the two categories throughout the entire period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'additionally', they are sometimes applied in a way that does not effectively link the ideas. The referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two visitor groups. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'multitime visitors' and 'citizens intrest', which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. Spelling errors like 'soard' (soared) and 'intrest' (interest) are also present. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure accurate spelling of common academic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'how many visitor who visited'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'from 2000 and 2008'), and missing punctuation. The sentence structure is often disjointed, which affects the overall readability. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and the correct use of prepositions when describing time periods and data trends.
