Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses the main features of the line graph by reporting data for both first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008. You make relevant comparisons and identify key trends, such as the initial drop followed by an upward trajectory for new visitors, and the peak of returning visitors in 2006. However, there are some inaccurate data representations, such as stating that returning visitors were nearly 2,500 in 2008 when they were actually higher, and the response ends abruptly mid-sentence. These minor inaccuracies and the incomplete ending prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the main parts of the task are covered reasonably well, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and body paragraphs dedicated to different trends. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with the second body paragraph blending awkwardly into the next thought, and the response ultimately cuts off unfinished. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes faulty, such as 'Probing ahead to the rest of information', which sounds unnatural and mechanical. Referencing and logical progression are generally maintained throughout the body, but the lack of a proper conclusion and occasional awkward transitions weigh down the score. With more precise cohesive devices and a complete concluding statement, the coherence would improve significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'gradually decreases', 'dramatically', and 'highest growth'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'visitors who first time visited', 'the visitors who returns from Island', 'new comers', and 'sudden uplifts at high pace'. Spelling and word formation issues also appear, such as 'decreas'. These errors show limited control over word choice and collocation, aligning the response with Band 5.5. Expanding your repertoire of precise academic phrasing will help elevate your score in future writing tasks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures when reporting data trends. Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly concerning tense usage, prepositions, and article omission. Examples include 'in year 2000' (lacking an article), 'starting increasing' (gerund usage error), 'in 2002 year', and 'the amount of visitors that returns follow upward trend' (subject-verb agreement and article errors). Punctuation is also weak, marked by missing spaces after commas and an incomplete final sentence. While these errors do not completely obscure the intended meaning, their frequency pulls the score down to a 5.0.
