Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the line graph, correctly identifying the overall trends and key data points for both first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island. The overview highlights the general upward trajectories and contrasting initial movements between 2000 and 2002. Key figures, such as the peak of approximately 15,000 visitors in 2006, are appropriately reported. However, the response falls short of the required minimum word count, containing 139 words instead of the mandated 150 words. This under-length penalty restricts the task achievement score to Band 5.0, as it prevents full development and comprehensive coverage of all data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a clear overall organization with an introductory paragraph, an overview, and two body paragraphs dedicated to each category of visitors. Cohesive devices are employed to sequence information chronologically, such as 'Then,' 'After 2004,' and 'by 2008.' However, some cohesion is rather mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally clunky, for instance with phrases like 'then it was inclined to a peak.' Paragraphing is utilized, but the structural progression is somewhat basic. Overall, the organizational framework is coherent enough to earn a Band 6.0, as the progression of ideas is generally logical despite minor flaws.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying numerical changes through terms like 'declined,' 'rose,' 'minimally,' and 'peak.' However, there are multiple spelling and word choice errors, including 'infographic' instead of simply 'graph,' 'returing' instead of returning, 'betweem' instead of between, 'inclined' used incorrectly for upward trends where 'increased' or 'grew' would be more natural, and 'individual' instead of individuals. These lexical inaccuracies and typos are noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('which was fell almost half of visitors'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring noticeable errors like missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('was fell'), and run-on sentences joined improperly with commas in the final paragraph ('then visitors increased minimally at 12000 people in 2004, then it was inclined...'). While the meaning is generally retrievable, the frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing means the writing cannot achieve a higher band, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors well.
