Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008. An appropriate overview is provided in the second paragraph, capturing the main trends of both groups (returning visitors increasing significantly overall, while first-time visitors dropped sharply initially before rising). Key data points, such as the peak of returning visitors in 2006 (around 15,000) and the initial drop in first-time visitors, are accurately cited from the visual data. The response meets the requirements well and provides a clear summary of the information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introduction and overview, followed by separate body paragraphs detailing the trends for first-time visitors and returning visitors respectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different parts of the data. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'According to the data', and 'Analyzing the data' are employed to guide the reader through the report, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing throughout the text is generally clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'significantly', 'dramatically', and 'approximately'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'tourits' instead of 'tourists', 'inital' instead of 'initial', and awkward phrasing like 'near by 3000 visitors' or 'in the end of the given time frame' instead of 'at the end'. While these lexical errors do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level of control over vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. Complex structures are attempted, such as 'while the trend of first time visitors plunged sharply in inital two years after that it rose gradually'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including comma splices, run-on structures ('...rose sharply, accounted about 10000 travelers'), and missing prepositions. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher band, though they rarely impede overall comprehension.
