Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph illustrates the number of first time and repeated visitors in between 2000 to 2008 at caryl island.
Overall, the line graph represents increased trend throughout the years with some downfall in both catagories and also some fluctuations present.
First time visitors in caryl island in the year 2000 was at 8000. Unfortunately it droped constantly till 2002 and reached at half of the figure at 4000. It rose sharply after 2002 till 2008 and reached at 12000. From 2002 it showed increased trend throughout the years.
Returning visitors at cayl island in the year 2000 was at approx 3000. It increased considerably till 2006 at 14000. Returning visitors figure starts to fall down after the year 2006 and loss almost 1000 visitors till 2008. It seems that caryl island will loose their repeating visitors in upcoming years. First time visitor showed continue increased from 2006 onwards, but starting to loose returning visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the task by reporting key data points and trends for both first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008. While an overview is attempted, it is overly simplistic and contains vague phrasing ("increased trend throughout the years with some downfall"). Some data points contain minor inaccuracies, such as stating that first-time visitors reached 12,000 in 2008 when the graph shows approximately 11,800, and slight misreadings of the returning visitors' peak. Furthermore, the final sentence includes unnecessary speculation ("It seems that caryl island will loose their repeating visitors"), which is inappropriate for an academic task report. However, the main features and general comparisons are present, meeting the basic requirements for a Band 5.5 to 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is arranged into four paragraphs, reflecting a basic attempt at structuring an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, paragraphing is poorly executed; body paragraph 3 consists of a single sentence that repeats information already stated, and paragraph 4 mixes separate trends and personal commentary. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes mechanically (e.g., repeating "in the year 2000 was at"). The progression of ideas lacks clear transitions between sentences, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in the concluding sentences. This places the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like "increased", "rose", and "reached". There are several word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including "repeated visitors" instead of returning visitors, "catagories" (categories), "droped" (dropped), "cayl" (Caryl), "loss" instead of lose, and "loose" instead of lose. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and noticeable inaccuracy. While the language is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic, the frequent lexical errors and lack of range restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple subject-verb-number constructions (e.g., "First time visitors in caryl island in the year 2000 was at 8000"). There are noticeable grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("First time visitors... was", "visitor showed continue increased"), missing capitalization for proper nouns ("caryl island"), and incorrect tense usage or word forms ("starts to fall down", "continue increased"). Punctuation is basic, with some missing commas in introductory phrases. Because complex structures are rarely attempted and simple structures contain frequent basic errors, the response earns a Band 5.0.
