Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph, identifying that first-time visitors decreased initially before rising, and reporting figures for both categories across the period. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting and misinterpretation of the trends. For instance, the student states that for returning visitors 'in 2006 there was abrupt decline was seen until 2008 with count less than 14k', whereas the graph clearly shows returning visitors peaking at around 15,200 in 2006 and then declining to 13,400 in 2008. Furthermore, the overview is brief and lacks precision. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is structured into four short paragraphs, representing an attempt at an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesive devices and abrupt transitions, such as 'People started came to Caryl island in 2000...'. Paragraphing is mechanically attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clarity. Referencing is also faulty in places, making the flow disjointed and requiring the reader to work harder to follow the comparison. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptor for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, with frequent lexical errors and awkward phrasing such as 'tourists who came to visit', 'second time', and 'again coming'. There are also spelling errors ('thier', 'untill', 'dcrease', 'continuosly') and word choice inaccuracies that reduce precision. While the student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and data reporting, the overall range is restricted and noticeably repetitive, fitting the criteria for a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complexity are frequently marred by serious grammatical errors. Examples include tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and faulty clause structures (e.g., 'show change in numbers', 'overall, first time visitors thier number decreased', and 'there was abrupt decline was seen'). Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic, with sentences beginning with lowercase letters. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly at a band 5.0 level.
