Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 115 words and leaving the final paragraph incomplete. While the student attempts an overview and references some initial data points such as the 2000 to 2002 trends, the severe under-length prevents a fully developed discussion. Major trends for the entire period are not completely reported, and data points lack full coverage towards the end of the timeline. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a logical structure with an introduction, an overview paragraph, and the beginning of a body paragraph. However, the text cuts off mid-sentence, leaving the organizational structure incomplete. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'On the other hand' are used to signal shifts, but referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'reached the no of 12000' without a clear subject). Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt termination disrupts the overall progression and coherence of the piece, leading to a band score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic description, featuring terms like 'fell suddenly', 'increased gradually', and 'dramatically'. However, there are notable limitations and awkward collocations, such as 'early half decade of the 21's' and 'the amount of people' (instead of 'number of people'). Repetition of basic verbs like 'grow' and 'increase' occurs, and word choices occasionally lack precision. Because the vocabulary is limited and contains noticeable errors, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting relative clauses and time markers (e.g., 'the number of first time visitors fell suddenly but later on it was increased gradually'). However, there are significant grammatical errors, including passive/active confusion ('it was increased gradually'), incorrect preposition use ('from 2000 to 2002 the amount... was decreased'), and punctuation or capitalization slips like 'caryl island'. Because complex structures are often faulty and errors are frequent, the appropriate band score is 5.0.
