Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task well by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons between first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island. An overview is provided, noting the upward trend for first-time visitors and the fluctuations for returning visitors. Most data points reported, such as the figures for 2000, 2006, and 2008, are accurate according to the chart, though there are some minor inaccuracies in referencing intermediate years (e.g., the claim about visitors crossing at 6000 between 2000 and 2002). The response fulfills the requirements for Task Achievement adequately, meeting the criteria for Band 6.5, which rounds to a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'respectively' is misused in the phrase '8000 and 10000 in 2006 respectively'). Transitional phrases are basic, and some sentences feel disjointed. Progression is generally logical, but the awkward phrasing in places disrupts the flow. This fits the Band 6 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'fluctuated', 'significant increase', and 'dramatically surged'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('gardually', 'returing', 'firts', 'agine', 'visted', 'dramtically') and word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'tourist again visited', 'the tourist who agine visted'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, rounding down to Band 5.0 due to the frequency of basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses ('the tourist who agine visted'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the firts time visitors were 8000', 'the number of tourist were same'), prepositions ('visited ... first time'), and tense consistency. Punctuation is also erratic in places, with double spaces and misplaced commas. These errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning the writing with Band 5.0.
