Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to report the main features of the line graph, providing figures for both first-time and returning visitors across the years. However, there are notable inaccuracies in the data reporting, such as stating that first-time visitors in 2000 'instantly decrease in 2002 by 4000 and reamis upto 4000', whereas the actual figure dropped from 8000 to 4000. Furthermore, the overview provided in the second paragraph is somewhat confused and repetitive, stating that the number of visitors is higher than returning visitors at first, but then contradicting this awkwardly. While some key trends like the peak of returning visitors in 2006 are captured, the overall clarity and precision in selecting and reporting data are restricted, aligning this response with a Band 5.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into logical paragraphs with an introductory statement, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for first-time and returning visitors. However, the progression is frequently hindered by mechanical and confusing transitions, such as 'By the time it starts increasing rapidly' and 'However returning visitors in 2000 was 3000 which increases time to time'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is often faulty due to repetitive phrasing and unclear referencing. Overall, the organizational structure is basic, demonstrating some coherence but lacking smooth progression, which is characteristic of Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive throughout the essay, relying heavily on fundamental terms like 'visitors', 'increase', 'decrease', and 'highest point'. There are several word choice and collocation errors or awkward phrasings, such as 'reamis upto', 'viusitors', and 'increases time to time'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data reporting (e.g., 'maximum', 'highest point'), inaccuracies in spelling and lexical selection are noticeable and occasionally cause mild confusion for the reader. This performance sits comfortably within the Band 5.0 descriptor range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently result in faulty grammar and punctuation errors. Examples include tense inconsistencies and awkward clause structures, such as 'In 2000, there are 8000 first time visitors which instantly decrease...', mixing past and present tenses inappropriately ('are' versus 'decrease'). Punctuation is also neglected, notably with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns (e.g., 'the line graph', 'caryl island'). Frequent errors in agreement, tense control, and mechanics cause some difficulty, justifying a Band 5.0 score.
