Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the line graph comparing first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008. However, there are significant issues with data interpretation and clarity. For instance, the statement 'the returning visitors is more than of visitors' is vague and poorly phrased. Furthermore, the specific figures quoted contain inaccuracies when compared to the visual data, such as claiming returning visitors rose up to '15000' in 2006 (it was around 15200, which is acceptable, but the overall trends are described confusingly). The overview lacks precision and the progression of data points is muddled, making it difficult to follow the overall trends without referring back to the original chart. This places the response in the lower-middle band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework, but the logical progression within and between paragraphs is heavily disrupted by awkward phrasing and confusing referencing. Phrases like 'In 2000, first time visitors has shown a fluctuating demand' and 'Additionally, it shows the half of the tourists has reduced' demonstrate poor cohesion and an unclear connection of ideas. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inappropriately, creating an unnatural flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of sentences fails to guide the reader smoothly through the comparative data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and often strained by severe word-choice errors and awkward collocations. Examples include 'returning back', 'a data of the first time visitors', and 'fluctuating demand in a trend'. These errors indicate a limited lexical range that is barely adequate for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'continuously' and 'respectively', but they are often misused or surrounded by ungrammatical phrasing, which causes considerable strain and confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'the returning visitors is more than', 'first time visitors has shown', and 'it rise upto 3000 to 15000'. Complex sentence forms are attempted, but they are almost always faulty and ungrammatical. Punctuation is basic and sometimes intrusive. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
