Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph shows the number of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The following graph illustrate the existence of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island, data from the time span of 2000 till 2008.
Accordingly, the first time visitors in 2000 were about 8000 and by the time, major decline can be seen in 2002 which was about 4000 visitors only, but then gradually increase can be seen from 2002 till 2008 which shows the number of visitors enhaced from 4000 to [redacted phone] respectively.
On the other side, returning visitors ratio is probably simple as the data is increasing smoothly from 2000 till 2006 with the number of visitors from about 2000 to [redacted phone] but a small downfall can be seen in data from 2006 to 2008 which shows a proper drop in numbers of returning visitors.
On a comparison both the categories of visitors are representing increase in interest to the Caryl Island from past few years as minor decline can be seen with returning visitors from 2006 to 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to report the main trends in the line graph, noting figures for both first-time and returning visitors between 2000 and 2008. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the data reported. For example, the student states that returning visitors grew to '150000', which is a misreading of the scale that only goes up to 16000. Additionally, the phrase '120000 respectively' is another extreme exaggeration. While the general trends (such as the overall increase) are identified, these severe data distortions and the lack of a clear, synthesised overview prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The response does cover the main parts of the graph, but the inaccuracies in data transcription pull the score down to a band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into four paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing each visitor category, and a concluding overview. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'Accordingly' and 'On the other side'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within sentences is frequently faulty, making it hard to follow the flow of ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use and abrupt shifts between data points. Overall arrangement exists, but the execution of cohesion is weak and repetitive, aligning with band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts to use some vocabulary related to trends, such as 'major decline', 'gradually increase', and 'small downfall'. However, word choice and collocations are frequently unnatural or incorrect, as seen in 'existence of first time visitors', 'returning visitors ratio is probably simple', and 'enhaced from 4000 to 120000'. Furthermore, major numerical errors ('150000') demonstrate a lack of precision in handling data vocabulary. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the limited and inaccurate range of lexical items restricts the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The following graph illustrate', 'both the categories of visitors are representing') and misuse of prepositions and conjunctions ('by the time, major decline can be seen'). Run-on sentences and awkward phrasing impede communication in several places. While some sentences are intelligible, the high frequency of structural and mechanical errors means the response best fits the band 5.0 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
