Student answer (Band 4.5)
The line chart illustrate the amount of tourists and returning tourists who has been visited Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008.
Overview, around 8000 people visited the place in 2000 then a massive declined of first time visitors in 2002, which is the half of the amount in 2000. On the otherhand, returning visitors in the year 2000 was around 3000 people which reached a dramatical increased in 2002, over 10000 tourists. Moreover it inreased over the years and reached over 14000 tourists and declined after 2006, which is approximately 2000 people.
The first time visitors increased after 2002, however it drives to increase the tourists 2002 to 2008 around 12000 people.
So, the masive difference is straight increased tourists who is returning visitors and there are little declined on first time visitors in 2002 then a straight increased over the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph, noting figures for both first-time and returning visitors in 2000 and 2002, as well as subsequent changes up to 2008. However, there are several data inaccuracies; for instance, the writer states that returning visitors reached 'over 14000 tourists and declined after 2006, which is approximately 2000 people' (whereas it peaked at around 15,200 and dropped to 13,400). Furthermore, the overview is poorly defined, and the text falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 142 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task. Band 5 is awarded as the response addresses the task only partially with noticeable data misreadings and an underdeveloped overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organization of the essay lacks clear paragraphing and logical progression. The response starts with an introduction, but the body paragraphs are conflated and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'On the otherhand' and 'Moreover it inreased', and the concluding sentences ('So, the masive difference...') read like a confusing jumble of thoughts rather than a coherent summary. Paragraphing is non-existent, as the text is clumped into erratic blocks that fail to separate the overview from the body details. Consequently, the structure feels mechanical and hard to navigate, fitting the descriptors for Band 4.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms like 'amount', 'tourists', 'people', and 'increased'. There are also persistent errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'massive declined' instead of 'massive decline', 'dramatical increased' instead of 'dramatic increase', and 'has been visited' instead of 'visited'. Spelling errors like 'inreased' and 'masive' further detract from the quality. While the vocabulary is just about adequate to convey a basic meaning about the chart's topic, the frequent lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses (e.g., '...which is the half of the amount in 2000' and '...however it drives to increase the tourists 2002 to 2008 around 12000 people'). Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including tense issues ('has been visited'), missing prepositions, and incorrect word forms in verb/noun slots. These errors frequently cause strain and difficulty for the reader in understanding the precise meaning of the sentences, aligning well with the Band 4 descriptor.
