Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph comparing first-time and returning visitors to Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting (for example, stating that returning visitors were 2,700 in 2000 when the graph indicates 3,000, and quoting incorrect figures for 2008). Furthermore, the overview includes irrelevant personal or subjective commentary ('the individuals who visited cary island enjoy the real beauty of this land') rather than summarising the main trends. While the general upward trajectory of both categories is noted, the inaccuracies and lack of a proper statistical overview place this criterion in Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, which shows an awareness of structural convention for Task 1. However, the progression is disrupted by poor punctuation, a lack of full stops, and run-on sentences. For instance, the third paragraph is a single long, breathless sentence linked by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' ('it was decline very repadily in 2002 it was at 4000 number of people but it follow the upward trend...'). Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, and referencing is frequently unclear. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak, resulting in a Band 5.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words like 'number', 'visitors', 'citizens', and 'tourist'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'display' instead of 'displays', 'repadily' for 'rapidly', 'higest' for 'highest', 'slipt up' for 'slipped', 'continous' for 'continously', 'treand' for 'trend', 'pick point' for 'peak point', and 'waas' for 'was'. These lexical limitations and frequent spelling errors restrict the score to Band 4.0, as they occasionally strain the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying on simple sentences strung together with conjunctions or comma splices. There are persistent, basic errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles (e.g., 'The given line graph display', 'the returning visitors almost higher then', 'the first time visitors was started'). Punctuation is largely absent, with entire paragraphs consisting of run-on clauses without terminal periods. These frequent, systemic errors significantly impede accurate communication, warranting a Band 4.0.
