Student answer (Band 5.0)
This graph illustrates the number of visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008. This is very informative graph. In this we can clearly see blue lining indicating first time visitiors and brown line denoting Returning visitors.
In this graph we can clearly see there were more tourist who visited Caryl island than returning. If we talk about exact number 8000 peoples visited while only 2000 where returning visitors. While as time passed the graph shows a different story . That first time visitors kept declining while returning visitors increased gradually.
As we talk about 2002,2004 and 2006 the returning visitors kept increasing like in 2002 10,000 people visited while in 2004 and [redacted phone]0 and almost 15000 peoples visited that constanly show increasing trend.
And if we talk about first time visitors there was slight decline in 2002 but other than that there was also positive trend but i was unable to match pace of returning visitors. But returning visitors showed a decline in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by describing the trends for both first-time and returning visitors, but it contains significant inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the student states that in 2000 there were 8000 first-time visitors and 2000 returning visitors, which misreads the chart (returning visitors started at 3000 and first-time at 8000, but the initial comparison is stated backward in terms of totals). Furthermore, the overview is weak, containing informal conversational filler ("This is very informative graph") rather than a clear summary of main trends. While some main features are captured—such as the general upward trend of returning visitors and their peak—the data reporting is imprecise and includes factual errors. Therefore, the response falls into the Band 5 descriptor for failing to fully and accurately present all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by informal and conversational spoken-style transitions like "If we talk about exact number" and "As we talk about 2002, 2004 and 2006". The referencing and linking between sentences are occasionally repetitive or mechanical. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information is disjointed; for example, the final paragraph mixes various years and trends without clear structuring. Cohesive devices are used in a basic and repetitive manner rather than flexibly, pulling the coherence score down into the Band 5 range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words like "visitors", "graph", and "increase". There are also noticeable awkward expressions and errors in word choice and morphology, such as "peoples" (which appears multiple times) and "visitiors". The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "constanly show increasing trend" and "slight decline", but spelling and word formation errors ("peoples") are noticeable and limit the range. This level aligns with Band 5, where vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors causing some distraction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "While as time passed the graph shows a different story that first time visitors kept declining...", but these complex structures are often faulty and punctuated incorrectly. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies. For example, the sentence "While as time passed the graph shows a different story" mixes past and present tenses incorrectly. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and comma splices. These recurring errors place the grammar score firmly at Band 5.
