Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the data for both first-time and returning visitors from 2000 to 2008. An overview is attempted in the introduction, noting that returning visitors increased while first-time visitors fluctuated, which satisfies the basic requirements of Task 1. However, the data reporting contains some inaccuracies and imprecise language. For instance, the student states that the graph of first-time visitors reached 'almost 12000 visitors till 2008' (the exact figure is 11,800), and the peak for returning visitors in 2006 is described as 'almost 15000' (the exact value is 15,200). Furthermore, some trends are described with overly colloquial or imprecise expressions like 'huge blow down' and 'hypes gradually'. While the main features are successfully selected, the lack of precise data handling and occasional slight misinterpretations limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is organized into three paragraphs, featuring an introduction and two body paragraphs dedicated to each visitor category. The overall progression is generally clear, and the writer employs transitional phrases to guide the reader, such as 'To start with' and 'Moving on discussing'. However, paragraphing and cohesion are somewhat faulty and mechanical. The conclusion or summary overview is awkwardly placed at the very end of the introduction rather than being synthesized clearly. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes awkwardly used, such as 'Moving on discussing the revisits to Caryl Island is amazing', which lacks formal academic tone and proper signposting. Referencing is mostly clear, but the structural flow feels a bit disjointed due to conversational transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms related to data trends such as 'fluctuation', 'increase', 'decline', and 'visitors'. However, there are notable limitations and frequent non-academic or incorrect word choices. For example, the student writes 'significanttly' (spelling error), 'bigining', and 'descline'. Furthermore, informal or inappropriate lexical items are used throughout, including 'blow down', 'hypes', and 'revisits'. These lexical inaccuracies and non-standard collocations prevent the response from achieving a higher band, reflecting a limited control over less common vocabulary and spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The line graph shows the number of first time visitors as well as the returning visitors at Caryl Island in between 2000 to 2008' and 'At the start there were only almost 3000 repeating visitors in 2000.' However, grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes are frequent throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('returning visitors are rapidly increasing' mixed with past-tense narrative), awkward prepositional usage ('in between 2000 to 2008'), run-on clauses linked improperly by commas ('in 2006, But a little decline...'), and spelling mistakes like 'significanttly'. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not completely impede overall communication.
