Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers the main trends in the line graph, but it falls short of the word count requirement, which limits the overall development of the task. While you have successfully identified general movements for both first-time and returning visitors, some details are slightly inaccurate or incomplete. For instance, you stated that first-time visitors decreased to half from 8000 to 4000 between 2000 and 2002, which is correct, but your description of the subsequent rise contains a slight miscalculation of the timeframe and endpoints, mentioning 4000 to 12000 between 2006 and 2008 when the figure actually reaches 11800 in 2008 from a 2006 baseline of 9300. The overview provided in the second paragraph captures the main directional trends adequately, but to reach a higher band, all data points should be reported with greater precision and the response must meet the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your writing demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction to the overview and body paragraphs. You have used appropriate introductory phrases and transition markers such as 'Overall', 'In addition', 'Moving on to the returning visitors', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used effectively, separating the introduction, overview, and individual body paragraphs for each visitor type. However, cohesion occasionally feels slightly mechanical rather than entirely natural, and referencing could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, ensure that cohesive devices are integrated seamlessly without sounding formulaic and that the logical relationships between sentences are consistently tight throughout the entire report.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating lexical items such as 'illustrates', 'decreased significantly', 'climb substantially', and 'dipping slightly'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary relating to trends and data reporting. However, there are minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'number reached to around15000' where the preposition 'to' is redundant and a spacing error occurs. Spelling is generally accurate, but word choice lacks the precision and flexibility characteristic of higher bands. To improve your lexical score, focus on precise collocations and ensure that prepositions associated with verbs of change are used correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

Your response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable control over basic grammatical structures. You have used past tense verbs correctly to describe historical data trends, as seen in 'The number of first-time visitors decreased...' and 'the figure climbed substantially...'. There are some minor grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as omitting an article in 'number reached to around15000' and slight phrasing issues, but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the meaning. To reach the next level, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater frequency and ensure error-free execution across all your grammatical patterns.
