Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly after 113 words. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mention some figures, the summary contains significant inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the data shown in the graph. For instance, the statement that first-time visitors were 'the highest as compared to returning visitors' in the beginning contradicts the visual data, where returning visitors started lower but quickly surpassed first-time visitors. Furthermore, the body paragraph contains confused data reporting, such as stating that 'the first visitors fell from 8000 to 4000 in 2002' when describing the start of the trend. The information is inadequately selected and reported, and the response trails off mid-sentence with 'Mean'.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation attempted, with separate introductory, overview, and body sections, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the mechanical and repetitive use of transition phrases like 'Overall, it is clear that' followed by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is fragmented, with the final section breaking off abruptly after only a few sentences and failing to complete the description of the trends. Referencing between ideas is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparisons smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that occasionally impede communication. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'intial' instead of initial, 'intially visitors' instead of initial visitors, and 'slightly declined' instead of slight decline. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to trends, such as 'dramatically increased', but the range remains minimally adequate for the task. Spelling and morphological errors ('Futhermore', 'Futhermore') further restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions with frequent errors when attempting more complex forms. There are notable grammatical issues throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors ('the intially visitors... was the highest'), incorrect use of comparative structures ('as compare to'), and awkward prepositional usage ('in following the years'). Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent, and the presence of frequent grammatical errors can cause some difficulty and confusion for the reader.
