Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview of the main trends and making relevant comparisons between first-time and returning visitors. You attempted to report key data points, such as the figures for 2000 and the peak years, fulfilling the core requirements of an academic task. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, and certain data references are slightly imprecise or under-developed, such as stating 'more than 14000' rather than citing more exact figures or trends from the chart. To reach a higher level, you should ensure all key features are reported with greater clarity and precision, avoiding vague approximations where exact data points are available.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The report has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for each category of visitor. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related ideas. However, the cohesion between sentences and clauses is sometimes mechanical or awkward, relying on transitional phrases like 'Moving towards' rather than smoother logical links. Referencing and referencing ties could also be managed more fluidly to guide the reader effortlessly through the data comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'linear representation', 'decreased sharply', and 'increased trend'. However, there are notable lexical and collocational inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'count of first time travelers' instead of 'number of first-time visitors', and awkward phrasing like 'people who come back' instead of 'returning visitors'. While communication is not severely impeded, these word choice and collocation errors prevent the lexical score from rising further. Using more natural academic collocations would significantly strengthen your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use different grammatical structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with passive voice constructions and verb tenses, such as 'they went to Caryl Island' instead of 'who visited', and 'it was shows increased trend' instead of 'it showed an upward trend'. Additionally, prepositions and articles are occasionally misused. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret, pointing to a need for tighter control over basic and complex sentence patterns.
