Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing 141 words, which is 9 words short of the 150-word minimum (excluding text copied from the prompt). While the student attempts to describe the main trends, the information provided is often inaccurate, confusing, or contradictory. For instance, the overview contains jumbled and confusing descriptions such as 'numbers of visitors of first time visitors showed on peak and dropped suddenly in next year and then increased so high it's was the slight drop in 2002'. Furthermore, key data points are misreported or vague, such as claiming that visitor numbers reached approximately 12,000 across multiple years when the actual data fluctuates differently. The selection and reporting of features are only partial and minimally executed, leading to an overall impression of incomplete and underdeveloped task handling.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response displays some basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview, but it lacks a clear, logical progression overall. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the repetitive and incorrect use of 'wheras' and 'Moreover'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. For example, sentences like 'Furthermore, the number of returning visitors was about 3000 pupils in 2000 then increased in 2002 was almost 10,000' run together without proper subordination or transitional logic, resulting in mechanical and disjointed cohesion that hinders readability.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms and numeric descriptions, but noticeable word-choice and collocation errors occur throughout the text. Examples include referring to adult visitors as 'pupils' and awkward phrasing such as 'showed on peak', 'dropped suddenly in next year', and 'huge decreased'. While basic communication of visitor trends is attempted, these recurrent lexical inaccuracies and non-standard word formations restrict the response to a lower band, though they do not completely obscure the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the numbers of first time visitors was'), incorrect tense usage ('started gaining' instead of beginning to rise), and missing prepositions or structural links ('increased in 2002 was almost 10,000'). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences lacking appropriate conjunctions or full stops. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over basic grammatical forms.
