Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the line graph regarding visitors to Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008. An adequate overview is provided, noting the overall upward trend and the key relational difference that returning visitors consistently outnumbered first-time visitors after the initial period. Key data points are correctly identified, such as the drop in first-time visitors in 2002 and the peak of returning visitors in 2006. However, some areas could be more fully developed; for instance, the description of the fluctuations could integrate more precise comparative language to fully capture the dynamic interplay between the two categories. Overall, the performance meets the requirements for a clear, relevant account of the visual data while showing some aspects of more fully extended reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction through an overview into detailed body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct time periods and visitor types. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions and contrasts, such as "Although", "In contrast to", and "However". However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the repetitive sentence openings and the minor confusion in referencing the peaks and data points in the final paragraph. To reach the next level, the writer needs to ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas more smoothly and that referencing is consistently clear and precise throughout the entire text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items related to trends and data reporting, such as "fluctuated", "significantly lower", and "rising steadily". However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that slightly impede communication, including "compears" instead of compares, "returnes" instead of returning, "increasning" instead of increasing, and mixing up "fell" with "fail" or past tense forms. While the range is sufficient to convey the main points clearly, these slips in word formation, spelling, and precision prevent the response from achieving a higher score. More careful proofreading and a wider control of less common collocations would enhance the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinate clauses and comparative structures. There are several grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("first time visitors number could never surpasses", "returning visitors number were significantly lower"), awkward phrasing, and minor punctuation slips. Despite these errors, the meaning remains generally clear and communication is rarely impeded. To move into higher bands, the writer must demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures, ensuring that plurals, possessive forms, and verb tenses are handled accurately and consistently across the text.
