Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both categories of visitors across the given time period, and an overall trend is attempted. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the phrase 'majority of the travellers returning from the island and first time visitors are constantly increased' is somewhat confusing regarding what is actually increasing. Key features are selected, such as the peak in 2006 for returning visitors and the drop in 2002, but some of the data points are slightly inaccurate or vague, such as stating 'approximately 10000 people came back' when the graph shows around 10000 for 2002, yet misinterpreting some trends. To reach a higher level, the overview needs to be sharper and data reporting must be more precise and fully supported without contradictory phrasings.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically into an overview and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used, though the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Generally', and 'Alongside' are used to structure the text, but referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'this tend to increased constantly and these island welcomed'. Information flows reasonably well from sentence to sentence, but the progression could be smoother. To achieve higher bands, the writer must ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that referencing is consistently precise to avoid any ambiguity for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate the basic meaning of the line graph, demonstrating attempts at less common items such as 'peaked', 'estimated', and 'significantly dropped'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'islnad' instead of 'island', 'travellers returned back' (redundancy), and awkward word choices like 'number of travellers who tends to return back'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To improve, the writer should focus on precise word choice, eliminating redundancies like 'returned back', expanding the range of synonyms, and carefully checking spelling before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like time clauses and relative constructions. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'Visitors includes', 'These numbers slightly increased and reaches', and 'this tend to increased constantly'. Punctuation is also occasionally weak, with missing spaces after periods in places. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to hold the score at this level. To progress, the writer needs to exercise greater control over verb tense consistency, singular and plural agreements, and the accurate formation of complex verb phrases.
