Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear overview of the main trends and selecting key data points to report and compare. You correctly noted the significant increase in returning visitors and the contrasting trend for first-time visitors, which shows a solid grasp of the overall visual data. However, some parts are more fully developed than others. For instance, while the initial and final figures are mentioned, certain data points are slightly generalised or could have been linked more explicitly to support the comparisons. To reach a higher level, the response needs to maintain a more consistent depth of detail across all parts of the graph without omitting key intermediary fluctuations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the overview and body paragraphs. You make use of transitional phrases and cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Whereas', and 'However' to guide the reader through the data. Nevertheless, cohesion occasionally feels somewhat mechanical or abrupt, and referencing could be smoother, particularly when transitioning between different groups of visitors. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, separating the overview from the detailed body points, but stricter control over how sentences link together would elevate the organizational quality further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive verbs such as 'significantly', 'declining', and 'increment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'the repeating visitors', 'the most number of repeating tourists', and 'new comers', which show slight awkwardness in expression. These vocabulary errors and word-choice slips do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a more precise and natural stylistic control. Expanding your repertoire of precise statistical terms will strengthen this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with adequate control over basic verb tenses used to describe past trends. You successfully incorporate relative clauses and prepositional phrases, though some structures contain grammatical errors and awkward prepositions, such as 'between the year 2000 to 2008' instead of 'between 2000 and 2008'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though minor lapses occur. These errors are typical of the band, as they only occasionally emerge and rarely impede communication, but eliminating them and increasing the proportion of error-free complex sentences will lead to higher grammatical attainment.
