Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response is under the minimum length requirement of 150 words, which restricts the depth of the report. You have attempted to cover both categories of visitors across the given timeframe, but the overview is somewhat simplistic and contains inaccuracies regarding the overall trends. For instance, you state that returning visitors peaked in 2006 at around 16,000 and then decreased, and that first-time visitors 'levelled up to 12000 visitor in 2008', which misinterprets some of the data points from the visual. While key features like starting points and general directions are mentioned, some comparisons are underdeveloped or imprecise. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure all data is accurately reported, provide a clearer and more comprehensive overview of main trends, and write at least the minimum word count to allow full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your writing has a coherent overall arrangement, and you have made an effort to structure the report into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to each visitor type. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'On the other hand' are used to connect ideas, though referencing and linking can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the sentence structure in 'both types of visitors the returning and for the first time increased significantly'. Paragraphing is present and helps the reader navigate the text, but to achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices flow more naturally and that referencing within sentences is completely clear and unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'significantly', 'declined sharply', and 'peak'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors (such as spelling the island name as 'Crayl' and 'Craym') and inaccuracies in word choice or phrasing, such as 'the other type' and 'over taking the number people'. These lexical slips and awkward collocations cause some minor distraction for the reader. To improve your lexical score, you should aim to use a wider variety of precise vocabulary relating to trends and data without errors, and carefully proofread your writing to ensure names and key terms from the prompt are spelled correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as time clauses and comparative statements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, you wrote 'Returning visitors number increased' instead of 'The number of returning visitors increased', and placed spaces before commas ('visitors ,from'). Additionally, attempts at complex sentences occasionally lead to awkward or faulty phrasing. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you need to focus on correct noun-phrase modification, precise preposition use, and careful punctuation control to minimise errors that disrupt the flow of your writing.
