Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and presents an overview with main trends, though some ideas are slightly under-developed or less precise. You successfully identified key features such as the overall trajectories of both first-time and returning visitors, as well as making relevant comparisons. For instance, you noted that the number of returning visitors peaked and then fell in 2008, while first-time visitors rose steadily after 2002. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies and awkward generalisations in your reporting. For example, you mention that returning visitors were 3000 in 2000 and reached around 14000 in 2008, but your description misses some intermediate precision. To reach a higher band, ensure that all major data points are accurately reported without minor discrepancies, and extend the comparisons between the two visitor categories more fully throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression, showing features of both the lower and higher bands. You have attempted standard paragraphing, splitting the overview and body details effectively, and used transitional markers such as "To begin with" and "Additionally" to sequence your ideas. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, phrases like "this number" are used frequently without fully unambiguous antecedents given the multiple visitor categories being discussed. To fully secure a higher band, work on using a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices while ensuring that referencing remains tight and natural throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic information, but it contains noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that place it at this level. You make several spelling errors, such as "gradullay", "decresed", "returen", and "inceased", alongside a few minor lexical slips like misspelling the island's name as "Crayl" instead of Caryl. While you attempt some less common vocabulary to describe trends, such as "inclined", "gradually", and "accounted for", the recurring inaccuracies in spelling and word form prevent higher achievement. To improve, focus on expanding your range of reporting verbs and adjectives, and carefully proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though control over grammar and punctuation fluctuates. You use some complex structures correctly, such as the contrast clause in the overview ("while tourists who visited first time on Island decresed in 2002 but after that this number rose"). However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("the number of returned visitors were 3000" instead of was) and missing articles ("on Island" instead of on the island). These errors rarely impede communication, keeping the response at this band level. To achieve a higher score, ensure tighter control over subject-verb agreement and article usage in complex sentences.
