Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially and falls short of the minimum length requirement of 150 words by 8 words. While you attempt to report the main trends of first time and returning visitors, the data is frequently inaccurate and confused. For instance, you state that first time visitors started at 8000 and dropped to 4000 in 2002, whereas the chart shows returning visitors starting at 3000 and rising to 10000. Key comparisons are weakly handled, and the conclusion mentions that both crossed at 6000, which is inaccurate according to the graph. To improve, you must ensure that your data points match the visual information precisely and that you meet the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the response lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with run-on sentences and a lack of clear separation between ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or inaccurate, such as using 'Further' and 'before reached on its high point' without proper clause structures or referencing. Pronoun referencing is also unclear in places, making the flow disjointed. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of cohesive devices accurately, organise your response into logical paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and ensure a smooth, progressive flow of information throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'approimately', 'neai', and 'cross mathed', which stem from spelling mistakes and inaccurate word choice. You attempt some less common vocabulary like 'steadily increased', 'significantly climbed', and 'gradually go up', but word choice and collocation issues persist, such as 'reached on its high point' instead of 'reached its peak'. To improve your lexical score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary for describing trends and graphs, ensure correct word forms, and carefully proofread your writing to eliminate spelling and collocation errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent errors in complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, tenses, prepositions, and punctuation, such as missing capitals at the beginning of sentences, incorrect prepositions like 'in 2000 and in 2002 respectively', and broken sentence boundaries. For example, phrases like 'before reached on its high point,it also expanded' lack proper subject-verb agreement and clause connection. To improve, you must work on sentence construction, ensure correct use of tense and verb forms when describing past data, and pay close attention to punctuation and basic sentence boundaries.
