Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both visitor groups and include several relevant figures, such as first-time visitors falling from 8,000 to 4,000 and returning visitors reaching a peak in 2006. However, the overview is inaccurate: first-time visitors do not rise throughout the period, since they fall sharply at the start, and returning visitors do not follow a downward trend overall; they rise substantially before declining after 2006. Some figures are also misreported: returning visitors begin at about 3,000, not 22,000, and the first-time figure in 2008 is about 11,800 rather than simply “under 12,000.” The response selects relevant features, but the overview and comparisons need to represent the full pattern more accurately and clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear, and several links between ideas are confusing. For example, “in the next year the point slightly dip down in 2004” does not fit the data sequence, while “from year 2002 visitors rate is continuously jump up” leaves the subject unclear. Linking expressions such as “overall,” “from,” and “again” are used, but they do not consistently clarify comparisons or changes over time. Grouping the main trends in a clearer chronological order and using precise references to each series would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “trend,” “declining,” and “highest point,” so the reader can recognise that you are describing a graph. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “planing to go back their home,” “declining half,” and “the point slightly dip down” are not suitable ways to describe visitor numbers. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “Returining,” “upard,” and “betwen.” Aim to use a small set of accurate graph-description expressions—such as “rose,” “fell,” “reached a peak,” and “stood at”—rather than forcing less natural phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe changes across several years, but sentence structures are mostly simple and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For instance, “The line graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the individuals who come … is 8000” has problems with tense and agreement. In “from year 2002 visitors rate is continuously jump up,” the verb construction is faulty; “the point slightly dip down” also lacks the correct past-tense form. Articles, prepositions, and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “in year 2002” and the spacing around commas. Practise accurate past-tense sentences first, then add controlled comparisons using forms such as “while” and “whereas.”
