Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and include relevant figures, such as first-time visitors falling from about 8,000 to 4,000 before rising to roughly 12,000, and returning visitors reaching a peak near 15,000 in 2006. However, the overview is not fully accurate: returning visitors did not rise continuously through 2008, but fell from about 15,200 to 13,400. There are also confusing or incorrect details, including saying the first-time figure of 8,000 occurred in 2008, when it was the 2000 value, and describing a “little amount of decrements” in 2006. The response addresses the task, but its main features are only partly clear and some comparisons are underdeveloped. State the overall contrast accurately, then report the key changes in chronological order.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “In addition” signal a shift between series. However, progression is difficult to follow because information is repeated and some time references conflict. For example, the first-time visitor paragraph begins with “in 2008” before describing the fall from 8,000 to 4,000, which actually occurred from 2000 to 2002. Linking words are also sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as “While” between incomplete or unclear ideas. Organise each series chronologically, use clear year references, and connect comparisons directly rather than repeating the same trend.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “decline,” “increments,” “trends,” and “visitors,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the description unclear. Examples include “significants progress,” “persistent increments are shows,” and “little amount of decrements”; these are not natural collocations for describing data. Spelling errors such as “vistors,” “visitirs,” and “retuen” also reduce accuracy. Aim for a smaller set of precise expressions used correctly, such as “rose steadily,” “fell sharply,” “reached a peak,” and “declined slightly.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, and avoid using “increment” or “decrement” where simpler trend verbs are clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including comparisons introduced with “while,” but control is inconsistent and errors often make relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “The line chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “their is significants progress shows” contains several problems with agreement and sentence structure. Tense and clause formation are also unreliable in “after just two year are suddden dramatical decline are shown.” Some sentences lack a clear main clause, and punctuation around introductory phrases is inconsistent. Practise accurate present-tense reporting and past-tense descriptions of the chart, with one clear main clause in each sentence. Build complexity gradually using correctly formed clauses such as “After falling to 4,000 in 2002, the figure rose steadily.”
