Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify both visitor groups and report several relevant figures, including about 8,000 first-time visitors and 3,000 returning visitors in 2000, and the returning-visitors peak of roughly 15,000 in 2006. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: it lacks a clear overview of the contrasting overall patterns, and the first-time series is inaccurately described as reaching 12,000 in 2008, when it is about 11,800; the rise from 2002 to 2008 is also not simply gradual. The returning series rises to 2006 and then falls, but the account does not clearly compare the two groups across the period. The response is 107 words, below the required 150, so it has limited development. Add a concise overview and select key comparisons to explain the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: the opening refers to 2000 and 2002, and the next paragraph moves on to later years. The use of “Afterwards” and “Whereas” also signals a shift between periods or visitor groups. However, the progression is not consistently clear because several trends are packed into long, loosely connected sentences, and the relationship between the figures is sometimes hard to follow. For example, the first sentence joins the 2000 figures and the 2002 changes without clear punctuation. The second paragraph also combines the first-time trend with the returning-visitors trend. Use separate, focused sentences or paragraphs for each series, and connect them with precise time markers such as “By 2004” and “In contrast.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant language for describing data, including “declined,” “increase,” “fluctuations,” and “reaching a top” to convey movement and a peak. This gives the response a basic range suited to the task, but vocabulary is repetitive and several choices or spellings reduce clarity. “Huge amount” is not a natural way to describe visitor numbers, while “graph tend to show” is imprecise. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “retruning,” “graduall,” “inreases,” and “approximatelly.” Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. More precise verbs such as “fell,” “rose,” and “peaked” would help you describe changes without repeating general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine information using clauses and contrast markers, as in “Whereas returning visitor graph also inreases with fluctuations,” but sentence structures are limited and often faulty. The opening is a run-on sentence, with several ideas joined without appropriate punctuation or clear clause structure. There are also problems with verb forms and agreement, for example “graph tend to show” and “first time visitor,” where the subject and number are not consistently expressed. Missing articles and awkward sentence boundaries further affect readability. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related ideas with accurate conjunctions. For example, state the 2000 figures in one sentence and describe the 2002 changes in another.
