Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify both visitor groups and describe several broad movements, including the fall in first-time visitors to 2002 and the returning-visitors peak around 2006. However, the overview is unclear and partly contradictory: you say returning visitors rose and then fell, but also call their increase the most noticeable feature without clearly comparing the two series. Some figures are inaccurate or imprecise: first-time visitors begin at about 8,000, not a “population” total, and returning visitors rise from about 3,000 to 10,000 by 2002 rather than moving “parallel” to another series. The final returning figure is about 13,400. Select the main comparisons accurately and state the overall contrast clearly: returning visitors peaked higher, while first-time visitors ended above their starting point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an attempted overview and a body paragraph, and it uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “However.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, there is no clear progression through the data: the body moves between the two visitor groups and repeats points, while phrases such as “After it followed an fluctuate upward trend” make the sequence difficult to follow. The overview also repeats the idea of an increase without clearly setting out the main comparison. Organise the body by series or by time period, and use clear references such as “the former” and “the latter” only when their meaning is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “peak,” “trend,” “decreased” and “rise significantly,” so the reader can recognise the general movements being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the data harder to understand. For example, “population” and “members” are unsuitable for visitor totals, and “returning visitor listed with small number” is not a natural way to describe a figure. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “illsutrates,” “beggining” and “fluacte.” Use precise terms such as “visitors,” “number” and “figure,” and check spelling and common collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while,” “whereas” and “However.” Nevertheless, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. Examples include “returning visitors were gradually following upward trend,” which lacks an article and has an awkward verb construction, and “first time visitor were begin,” where the subject and verb form do not agree. Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “Then again it fall at the end of the year. While,” where the verb form and punctuation need correction. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and keep each sentence focused on one clear comparison.
