Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both visitor groups and report the main movements: first-time visitors fall from about 8,000 to 4,000 before rising, while returning visitors climb from about 3,000 to a peak around 15,000 and then decline. Most figures are close to the chart. However, the overview is unclear and incomplete: “there is a rise in number of visitors returning” captures only one series, while the final statement that tourism “fluctuated in the starting” does not clearly summarise the overall contrast. The key comparison—that returning visitors overtake first-time visitors by 2002 and remain higher thereafter—would strengthen the response. Some later figures and trends are reported, but the main features are not consistently synthesised.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate paragraphs for first-time and returning visitors, followed by a conclusion. This makes the information generally easy to follow. You also use sequencing signals such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover.” However, the progression is not fully controlled: the opening overview and final “Overall” statement repeat broad claims without clearly bringing the two series together. Some links feel mechanical, and the long first-time visitor sentence joins several changes without clear punctuation. To improve, organise the body around the contrasting trends and use linking phrases to show comparisons, not just chronology.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “decrease,” “rise,” “peak,” and “slight decrease,” so the reader can understand the main movements. There is some variation in how you describe change, but word choice and collocation are not consistently accurate. For example, “the number of tourism” is not an appropriate phrase for people visiting, and “a rise … by 12000” does not clearly express the final figure. “First-time and returning tourist” also needs a plural form. Aim for precise, natural expressions such as “visitor numbers,” “increased to,” and “reached approximately.” This would make the account clearer and more suitable for formal data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including “followed by about 6000 in the year 2004” and a clause describing the returning visitors’ peak and subsequent decline. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For instance, “over an period between 2000 to 2008” has problems with article and preposition patterns, while “a sudden decrease is seen by the year 2002” uses an awkward tense construction for a past trend. The final phrase “is seen to occured” also has an incorrect verb form. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly where the 2006 figure runs directly into “Furthermore.” Review past-tense reporting and sentence boundaries.
