Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both visitor groups and give a relevant overview of their contrasting patterns: first-time visits fall and then recover, while returning visits rise to a peak before declining. Most figures are close to the chart, including the 2000 and 2002 values. However, the overview contains a key factual error: returning visitors peak in 2006, not 2008. The detail also says their increase to 12,000 occurred by 2006, whereas it was reached in 2004; the 2006 figure is about 15,200. The final comparison that the groups were at a similar level in 2008 is also inaccurate, as returning visitors remained higher. Check each year against the graph and make the overview precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview, and separate descriptions of the two series. This makes the main comparison easy to follow, and transitions such as “Overall” and “In contrast” help signal the organisation. Some linking is less controlled, however. “Although” is used awkwardly at the start of detail sentences, and “respectively” does not clearly connect the figures to the years. The final sentence is difficult to interpret, weakening the conclusion of the comparison. Use straightforward links to show sequence and contrast, and ensure each sentence has one clear relationship to the preceding information. More precise referencing would also help the reader track which year and visitor group each figure describes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of trend vocabulary, including “fell,” “recovering,” “rose markedly,” “overtaking,” and “peaked,” so the response can describe changes rather than merely list figures. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “at the start in 2000,” “had risen slightly,” and “reached peaked.” There are also spelling errors in “comapred,” “consistenly,” and “slighly.” These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall topic, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, use “stood at” for a figure and “reached a peak” for the highest point.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a subordinate clause in “although returning visitors were consistently higher” and a contrast structure beginning “In contrast.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Although, visitors slightly increased” uses a subordinating conjunction without a complete contrasting clause, while “to became” has an incorrect verb form. The final sentence, “to became the both categories at the slighly at same level,” is structurally unclear. There are also tense and clause-control problems in “The upward trend had risen slightly.” Practise forming complete clauses and use consistent past-tense descriptions, such as “The figure rose to…”
