Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and report several relevant figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ peak of about 15,000 in 2006. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: first-time visitors did not rise steadily throughout, and returning visitors did not simply “go down the hill,” since they increased substantially from 2000 to 2006 before declining. Some dates and values are also confused: returning visitors were about 10,000 in 2002, not 2004, and about 12,000 in 2004. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the contrasting overall patterns, then report the main turning points and comparisons accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a broadly chronological order and uses signposts such as “firstly,” “moreover,” and “lastly,” so the reader can identify the sequence of observations. However, the ideas are not grouped into clear paragraphs, and the progression is weakened by abrupt shifts between the two visitor categories. Several connectors are mechanical or do not show a clear relationship; for example, “in addition” introduces another figure without explaining how it relates to the previous point. The conclusion repeats a broad claim rather than synthesising the trends, and “so the graph shows the clear understanding of concept” does not add useful information. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and two logically grouped detail sections, using comparisons to link the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “declined,” “peaked,” and “approximately,” which are relevant to describing a graph. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the report less precise: “individuals returned from the destination” does not clearly mean returning visitors, while “willing to go to island” suggests intention rather than recorded visits. Informal expressions such as “spike up” and “went down the hill” are unsuitable for an academic summary. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “acccording,” “fist,” and “climed.” Aim for a smaller set of precise graph-description terms, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some attempts to connect clauses, as in “but it gradually declined,” but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. The opening phrase “the number of visitors visited” has an incorrect grammatical pattern; use “the number of visitors to the island.” Other problems include missing articles in “to island,” inconsistent tense in “it peaked … but it goes down,” and unclear sentence construction in “in 2000, over 3000 individuals returned … whereas, 8000 visitors were going fist time.” Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise forming clear past-tense sentences with accurate comparisons, and use a mix of simple and compound structures before attempting longer clauses.
