Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and report the main broad movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise followed by a decline. However, the overview is inaccurate: the first-time series does not follow a downward path overall, as it rises after 2002 and ends at about 11,800; returning visitors also peak at about 15,200 in 2006, not 14,000. Some later figures are therefore misreported, and the comparison between the two groups is limited. The response also contains 141 words, below the required 150, so the task is not fully developed. Include a concise, accurate overview and key endpoint or peak figures to complete the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate detail paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by the inaccurate overview and by abrupt or unclear links, such as “even though” before the rise in first-time visitors and “Meanwhile” introducing a sequence that is not clearly contrasted. Several sentences combine multiple stages without precise signposting, and the final paragraph ends without a concluding comparison. Use clearer time-based sequencing—for example, describe the 2000–2002 change, then the subsequent rise—and connect the two series explicitly. This would make the organisation more coherent and the relationships between details easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “downward path,” “rising,” and “fall,” and the reader can generally identify the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the account difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “a larger group of 8000 people,” “the sudden fall is surprising,” and “the amount of people” are not natural ways to describe graph data. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “visitore,” “desingend,” and “follwed.” Aim for precise, conventional reporting language such as “the figure stood at,” “increased steadily,” and “reached a peak.” Proofreading spelling and choosing accurate trend verbs would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a time clause beginning “even though.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently. For example, “first time visitors have a larger group” uses an unsuitable verb construction, while “it starts rising gradually in 2004 and increase” shifts tense and has faulty agreement. The opening overview also begins a new sentence with lowercase “it,” and several sentence fragments or awkwardly joined clauses affect readability. Use past tense consistently for the completed period, check subject–verb agreement, and build shorter, complete sentences before attempting more complex structures.
