Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph illustrates the number of visitors who visited Caryl island first time and returning during the year 2001 to 2008.
Overall, the number of first time visitors decreased in the year 2002 as compared to 2000 and then it increased rapidly. Moreover, the highest number of returning visitors was in the year 2006.
Firstly, the number of first time visitors was eight thousand during the year 2000, then it falls down to four thousand visitors in 2002, which was also the lowest number of visitors. Moreover, the highest number of first time visitors to visit in Caryl Island was ten thousand in the year 2008.
Secondly, the lowest number of returning visitors was two thousand five hundred in the year of 2000 and it raised upto fifteen thousand of visitors in 2006, which is the highest number of returning visitors who visited Caryl Island. At last, it decreased to thirteen thousand in the year 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the two visitor groups and report several key movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall to 4,000 in 2002 and the returning visitors’ peak in 2006. The overview also recognises the broad rise in first-time visitors after 2002. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: first-time visitors reached about 11,800 in 2008, not 10,000, and returning visitors began at about 3,000, rather than 2,500. The opening also gives the period as 2001–2008, although the graph starts in 2000. Your overview could be more complete by noting that returning visitors rose to 2006 and then declined, while remaining above first-time visitors throughout. These omissions and inaccuracies leave some features less fully reported than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This makes the main information easy to locate, and sequencing within each group is generally chronological. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” help signal the stages of the report. However, the repeated “Moreover” and the formulaic “At last” make cohesion somewhat mechanical, and the two data paragraphs could compare the groups more directly rather than treating them entirely separately. Some references are also imprecise, such as “which was also the lowest number of visitors,” where it is not immediately clear that this refers specifically to first-time visitors. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer references to strengthen progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main trends, including “decreased,” “increased,” “highest,” and “lowest.” The repeated use of “visitors” is understandable, but the range of trend language is limited, and several expressions are not natural in this context. For example, “falls down” and “raised upto” are less suitable than standard graph-reporting collocations, while “the highest number of first time visitors to visit” is unnecessarily repetitive. “Caryl island” also needs consistent capitalisation as “Caryl Island.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the report, but more precise and varied vocabulary would make it more fluent and appropriately formal. Aim to describe changes with concise verbs and accurate collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer clauses, and most of the information remains clear. There are some errors in tense and sentence construction: “then it falls down” shifts from past reporting to the present, and “it raised upto fifteen thousand of visitors” has an incorrect verb form and an awkward quantity structure. The phrase “during the year 2001 to 2008” also uses an unsuitable grammatical pattern for a time span. Articles and prepositions are occasionally awkward, as in “in the year of 2000.” These errors rarely obscure the intended meaning, which is consistent with this level. To improve, keep past-tense forms consistent and practise concise patterns such as “rose to 15,000” and “from 2000 to 2008.”
