Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two visitor groups and include a broad overview, noting that returning visitors peaked in 2006 and that first-time visitors fell before rising. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: first-time visitors were not higher at the beginning (about 8,000 versus 3,000), and returning visitors did not decrease initially; they rose sharply from 2000 to 2002. The overview also says returning numbers increased over time without noting their final fall, and the first-time series peaked in 2008. The response is under the required 150 words, which limits the detail available. To develop the report, compare the series at key years and describe both their starting and ending figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements, such as saying first-time visitors were higher at the beginning and then describing the returning series as decreasing initially. Linking expressions are sometimes used inaccurately: “meanwhile” does not clearly connect the trends, and “although” is awkwardly placed in the final sentence. Some sentences also combine several points without clear punctuation. Organise the details by series or by time period, and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” and “From 2002 onwards” to make comparisons and sequence explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “increased considerably,” “decreased,” “gradually,” “steadily” and “peak,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “visitors who returning back,” “reaching its peak,” and “the graph line significantly increased.” Spelling errors such as “vistors,” “begining” and “afterthat” also reduce accuracy. Choose precise terms for the data itself: visitor numbers rise or fall, while a figure reaches a peak. Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “number of visitors” by using “figures” or “the total” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses some time clauses, but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in “visitors who visits,” “the number … was increased,” and “the first time visitors was higher.” The sentence beginning “Overall” also has a faulty comparison structure: “as compared to the number … was initially decline.” Articles and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “At the begining of graph” and the run-on punctuation around “noticibly, at this point.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple past forms for the historical data, then build longer sentences around one clear comparison at a time.
