Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two visitor groups and give a broad overview that returning visitors rose while first-time visitors fell initially and then increased. However, the account is only partial and several key details are inaccurate or unclear. Returning visitors peaked at about 15,200 in 2006, not 14,000 around 2005–06, and they did not rise continuously to 14,000 from 2000: the figure was about 3,000 in 2000 and 10,000 in 2002. The first-time series also rises to about 11,800 by 2008, a major endpoint worth reporting. The final sentence is unfinished, leaving the comparison incomplete. The response is 117 words, below the required 150, so there is not enough developed reporting of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. Linking expressions such as “Overall” and “By contrast” help signal the intended relationships. However, progression is difficult to follow because the details are not organised clearly by period or visitor group, and some statements repeat or conflict with earlier information. For example, the overview says returning visitors showed an upward trend, while the later account gives an unclear rise “from 2000 to directly 14000.” The final paragraph ends with “retuning visitors” and no completed idea, which disrupts the response. Group the figures into a clear sequence, compare both series at key years, and ensure every paragraph and sentence is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “visitors,” “declined,” “upwards trend” and “fluctuations,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended movements. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts awkward or unclear. Phrases such as “turn into up side,” “significant rise up” and “top figures” are not natural ways to describe a graph. There are also spelling errors, including “returuning” and “retuning.” Use precise trend language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe a figure as “peaked at” a value or “increased from” one year to another.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few complex structures, such as “whereas first time visitors declines in start,” and uses a contrast clause with “By contrast.” However, sentence structures are limited, and frequent errors in agreement, tense, articles and sentence formation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. In the opening, “The line graph compare” needs a singular verb, while “visitors declines” has a plural subject with a singular verb. The phrase “between 2000 to 2008” also uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The final sentence is incomplete, and punctuation does not resolve it. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete sentences before adding more complex clauses.
