Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the two visitor groups and give a broad overview that both figures rise overall, with returning visitors generally higher. Several key figures are also reported accurately, including the 2000 starting values and the first-time total of about 4,000 in 2002. However, the overview is not fully precise: first-time visitors do not rise continuously, since their number falls before recovering, and returning visitors finish below their 2006 peak. The description of first-time visitors as showing “steady flow grow” is unclear, and the 2008 comparison would be stronger if you explicitly noted that returning visitors remained higher. Select the main turning points and describe each series’ overall pattern more clearly to make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response follows a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a chronological account of the data. Time markers such as “in year 2000,” “after two years” and “in 2008” help the reader follow the sequence. However, the overview and details do not always connect smoothly, and some linking phrases are awkward or mechanical, particularly “However, after two years” and “Moreover” where the relationship between ideas is not clear. The final sentence also combines two separate series without a clear comparison. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details into clear stages or series, with concise links that show contrast or change rather than simply marking time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “sharply rise,” “reached at peak level” and “minimally changes,” showing an attempt to vary your language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “tourist first time,” “returned tourist,” “individuals visited” and “steady flow grow.” These expressions sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. There is also unnecessary repetition of “visited” and “tourist,” and capitalisation of “Highest” is inconsistent. Aim for standard graph-reporting phrases and use the labels “first-time visitors” and “returning visitors” consistently. More accurate collocations would improve clarity and demonstrate better control of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a time clause beginning “after two years.” Some sentence meanings remain understandable, but grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “It can clearly seen” is missing an auxiliary, while “the increased trend” does not form a correct clause. There are also problems with articles, plurals and prepositions in phrases such as “in year 2000,” “3000 of peoples” and “reached at peak level.” The long final sentence is difficult to follow because its clauses are not clearly structured. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complex sentences around clear subjects and verbs, checking agreement and sentence boundaries.
