Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the main movements and provide a clear overview: first-time visitors fell before rising, while returning visitors increased to a peak and then declined. The figures for 2000 and 2002 are accurately reported, and you correctly note that returning visitors remained ahead at the end. However, the overview says first-time visitors “kept increasing throughout,” which conflicts with the initial fall, and “At the end” is used where the peak in returning visitors occurred in 2006. The final first-time figure is given as 12,000 rather than approximately 11,800, a small difference, but the 2006 peak and subsequent decline could be described more precisely. Develop the comparisons across the full period more consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to chronological details, so the reader can follow the broad account. Time markers such as “In 2000,” “In 2002,” and “From 2004 to 2006” help organise the data. However, the overview’s claim that first-time visitors “kept increasing” does not align with the later account of their fall in 2002, weakening progression. Some links are also awkward or repetitive: “At the end of the period” appears twice, and the long sentence about 2006 combines several changes without clearly separating them. Use paragraphs for overview and detail, and connect each period’s figures with clearer comparisons between the two groups.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “plummeted,” “hike,” “upward trend,” “highest point,” and “decline,” which makes the main changes clear. Some less common choices are not fully natural for describing graph data: visitors “reported an impressive hike” sounds as if the visitors themselves made a report, while “continued to accelerate” is imprecise for a number that increased. “Kept increasing” and “rose” are also repeated or general. Aim for accurate, neutral collocations such as “the figure rose sharply” and “reached a peak.” Check consistent spelling and capitalisation of “Caryl Island,” and use “first-time” as a compound modifier.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a time clause beginning “From 2004 to 2006.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors reduce accuracy. For example, “first time visitors number stood” needs a possessive or a different structure, such as “the number of first-time visitors stood”; “only to be increased thereafter” has an awkward passive construction; and “returning visitors reported to decline” is not a well-formed pattern. Several sentences also run together because spaces after full stops and commas are missing. Practise concise comparisons and check articles, possessives, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries.
