Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the general subject and report some relevant movements, including the first-time visitor figure falling from 8,000 to 4,000 and later rising, as well as returning visitors increasing. However, the response only minimally fulfils the task: it has no clear, accurate overview of the contrasting trends, and several details are incorrect or unclear. Returning visitors peaked at about 15,200 in 2006, not in “probably 2005,” and the first-time series rose from about 6,000 in 2004 to 11,800 in 2008, not to 12,000 by 2008 from 6,000 without a clear account of the intervening years. The claim that the island is tourist-friendly is unsupported by the graph. The response is also 14 words below the required minimum; develop the key comparisons and include a concise overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to describe the graph in time order, moving from 2000 through later years, and phrases such as “By the time” and “From 2002 to 2004” signal some sequencing. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear report: the response is one continuous paragraph, lacks a distinct overview, and shifts between the two visitor groups without clear organisation. Connections such as “The the lines shows” and “In the orther hand” do not reliably clarify how the figures relate, while “The all time high numbers” is difficult to connect to the preceding point. Group the response into an introduction, overview, and detail paragraphs, and describe each series in a logical sequence with accurate linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “number,” “visitors,” “increasing,” and “all time high,” so the reader can recognise that it concerns visitor trends. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to follow: “massive changing numbers,” “people age,” “orther,” and “verry well.” Phrases such as “getting interest in to travel the island” and “they returns with a big numbers” are not natural collocations for describing a graph. Use precise trend language and avoid adding interpretations about visitors’ interest or the island’s suitability when the data only show numbers. More accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example, “From 2002 to 2004 the prople are getting interest…” and “The line chart shows that…,” but sentence structures are very limited and errors occur frequently. Problems with verb forms and agreement include “the number … was 8000,” “the number … gradually decressing,” and “they returns”; sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “by 2008 by 6000 to 12000.In the orther hand.” These errors sometimes obscure the intended relationships between years and figures. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence construction. A few controlled complex sentences using “while” or “whereas” would help express comparisons without sacrificing clarity.
